Winton
We finally arrived in Winton Settled Marilyn into the North Gregory Hotel (this was to become our focal point as Opera Queensland also stayed there) and set our van up at the Tattersalls Van Park and had lunch at the Tattersalls hotel across the road, we arrived on a Sunday, and with the Opera Festival not starting till Tuesday, I had planned a trip out to Opalton as that was one place Carol wanted to go last year but we ran out of time.
This year there was quite a different reason not to go, a reason that still had me a little worried for the rest of our planned trip “ROAD CLOSED”, was this to ruin the rest of our plans.
Still, we used the day wisely(??) by visiting a small town that is said to come to life when they have their “Race Day” Corfield, after visiting I feel it would take more than a race day to breath life into this town.
With Corfield being a little under whelming, we decided to go onto the Diamantina River where it crossed the Landsborough Hwy to see what the floods had left behind.
During the day people we met at the Meet and Greet, Franca and Keith, had also set up in the same van park, so we had a mini rally. Keith and Franca had also come for the Opera Festival.
The days in Winton were spent having coffee at the Coffee Cube, Lunch/Dinner at the North Gregory and catching as many as the pop-up shows in the main street as we could, this was between the organised events we were booked into.
When not at the events and before dinner at the North Gregory we caught a Bush Poet show also at the hotel whose name believe it or not was Gregory North, he had three shows all on or about AB Patterson and Waltzing Matilda (Worth seeing if you are there during the tourist season.)
Enough Said about the enjoyable festival as Opera Queensland have much More detailed information on the Opera Queensland Facebook page.
