The Trip Continues on to Tuscany!
Leaving Rome we hear north to meet up with friends in the small medieval walled town if Lucca, where we will go out to a Villa and spend the next week!
This is the real reason for the whole trip for here we will celebrate the 60 birthday of a close friend of Carol.
The train trip was in two stages first there was a fast train from Rome to Florence were we had to change to a slower local train to Lucca. The journey took us north through some very interesting landscapes.
On our arrival at Lucca station we discovered that three of the other people staying at the Villa Boccella were also on the same train. They had been staying at Florence and did not see us board the local train.
After the usual pleasantries the five of us headed out of the station in search of a taxi capable of taking all of us and our luggage to the Villa which was just outside of the small village “Ponte A Moriano”
Once we found a suitable taxi and gave him the address, we were on our way. It was a good thing that the driver knew the villa, as the instructions we were given when we were in Australia were misleading, as an Ice-cream sign that was mentioned had been removed.
When we arrived at the villa I met for the first time the rest of the guests for the week and we were assigned to our quarters.
The accommodation at the villa was in three of the smaller buildings and not the main Villa itself (there was a wedding planned to take place there on the weekend)
Most of the group were on one building and as that had the largest Kitchen and dinning area it became the centre for all our meals and where the party was to be!
The three ladies that shared our taxi were given accommodation in a building that was normally used for touring school education groups and Carolann and I were to share a 3 bedroom house with another couple and their 2 year old son, and the birthday girl herself!
Once we were all settled in, some left to purchase food and drink for the week. Upon their return some of the others volunteered to prepare our first evening meal together.
That night we all made plans for the activities for the rest of the week. These activities included some sightseeing (details over the next few days), the birthday feast with a meal cooked by a local chef, and his return to teach us how to cook some of local food dishes!
