Pisa
Beyond the Leaning Tower
Today we have a free day so we decided to take the train to Pisa a local trip of about 20 km, at this time we were the only ones at the villa that wanted to go, most following the advice that the only thing to see in Pisa was the famous “Leaning Tower” so felt it was a waste of time, I remembered what my parents told me years ago when they visited there on one of their trips, and know it would be worthwhile, and after our experience in Frankfurt we went.
It was a short walk from the station to the gates of the old town and the Square of Miracles the square where the Cathedral, the Baptiistry and the famous bell tower (The Leaning Tower)
The leaning Tower of Pisa is a medieval architecture, in Romanesque style. Construction started in 1173 but did not finish till 1399, and even then it was leaning as can be seen with the top which was built to try and correct the lean, this sight alone was worth while we would have liked to climb the bell tower BUT the queue was much tot long something like a 3 hour wait, we decided not to do that but explore Pisa away from the square and away from the crowds walking down streets where few people went instead of following the masses here we found things that interested us.
Upon returning to the villa we were quizzed on what we thought of Pisa, was it worth the trip so I decided to show them what we saw then they agreed it was worth the trip.
