Our Flight to Italy 2008
Just over a week after arriving home from China I was off again this time with Carol for a holiday in Europe mostly in Italy but also in the Netherlands and the UK.
The flight to our destination is in three parts Sydney to Singapore, a two hour wait then on to Frankfurt, change planes for a connecting flight to our final destination Rome.
Changing planes in Frankfurt, was already going to be a pain as there was a Five Hour delay, we knew this and enquired if we would be able leave the airport to have a quick look in Frankfurt and were warned in Sydney not to do that as we would not have enough time.
Upon arrival we noticed that there was an express train from the airport into the city, but we headed the advice we were given in Sydney and did not leave the airport and we waited at the airport, it was a long 5 hour wait.
Eventually we boarded out plane for a short hour and a half hop to Rome, by now we were looking forward to a meal and freshen up in our hotel, thinking that we would be there in no more than two to two and a half hours, that proved to be a joke!
The flight was short enough and we landed on time in Rome, we should have been able to be at the hotel in an hour, but 4 hours later we had only just received our luggage, so by the time we actually arrived at the hotel we had been up for 32 hours, all we could do was sleep and we did so till early in the morning. Never again!
Had we visited Frankfurt we would have felt a little refreshed and we found out later we had the time to do that! Not stopping over in Singapore was another mistake landing at Rome was the 3rd at that time Rome was vastly run down equipment was constantly breaking down.
This was not a good start to our trip thankfully it did improve and the trip ended being enjoyable, with one exception right at the end of the trip we I will tell you about later

TIPS
Learning from the errors we made on this trip I suggest the following tips.
When flying to Europe break you flight in half.
Do not listen to well meaning advice given in Australia, but ask the locals, they can give you much more upto date information
Carefully check the hotels your travel agent has booked you into, better still do your own booking that way you can ensure you have suitable accommodation and
