Florence
Our final city in Tuscany is Florence which is retracing our steps a little travelling by train, a journey we will take again tomorrow when we leave Tuscany for Venice.
There was a thought that we could stop in Florence on our way to Venice but we decided that, that would not give us enough time to really see this world heritage site.
Bigger and not a hill-top town it was long under the “de facto” rule of the Medici family whose influence can be seen everywhere, from the covered portico to the artwork including the statue of “David” to the covered portico constructed so that the Medici could travel from Palazzo Vecchio to Palazzo Pitti over the Ponte Vecchio without the fear of being assassinated, it was also them that had the butchers replaced from the shops on the bridge with Gold and Silversmiths, because they were concerned about the smell as they crossed the bridge.
Lots to see here so again many photos I found it hard to reduce then even further but they are in 4 galleries
