ROME
After our visit to the Isle of Capri we returned to our hotel in Sorrento it collect our bags and catch the bus back to Rome, and our small hotel there.
Our hotel in Rome was a very small boutique Hotel in a residential building near the river and not far from the Vatican (for this you will have to wait as everybody who visits there does) and within walking distance from every major tourist attraction there is in the city!
With only eight rooms to let it is small but what it lacks in size it more than make up for with the size of its heart, the staff, they could not be more welcoming or friendly, and the location too was the best, even though it did not have a restaurant it was close to the best restaurant we tried during the whole trip!
We had a quiet night the first night back in Rome talking to the owner/manager of the hotel and planning what to do for our 3 day stay in this historic city that dated back well over 2000 years.
We planned that night to see many things like the “Vatican” and the ancient “Ruins of Rome” and also some more modern but still old sights like the “Spanish Steps” and the fountain used in the film “Three Coins in a Fountain” the “Trevi Fountain” both of these we visited in the day and night.
We also booked yours to places of interest outside of Rome but within a short bus ride!
In the morning during breakfast in the small breakfast room we talked with other guests and the morning staff and continued to plan our day of sight seeing using a map supplied by the hotel, and as everything for the day was near by we could walk, so putting on comfortable shoes and taking my camera we set off for the day, we were advised that there are many places with running water where we could refill water bottles so do not discard the empty bottle but use the free fountains to refill them!
When I first saw these water spouts, coming from a land where there is a water shortage all I could think was what a waste of water to have it running all the time! But it was cold and clean it was refreshing, we soon learnt to empty our bottles and refill them with fresh cold water! (these water spouts are all over Italy and unless otherwise signposted are good to drink)
We returned to our hotel late that night for another good night sleep tired but HAPPY
