Day Eight

Happy Bay to Able Point Marina

(A total of 203.1 Nautical Miles for the trip)

Day-Eight

We all woke with lots of mixed feeling today, our last day, Officially we had to return the boat by midday and we were still short of our 200 nautical mile mark, would we be able to make it.

That was not the only reason for the feelings we had, a week away from our families, with limited contact (at that time mobile phones had limited coverage) and the knowledge we still had to drive all the way back to Sydney.

At the morning radio schedule we were informed that it would be ok to bring the boat back late as it was not required for a hire the following day, we thanked them and made plans to ensure we reached the 200 NM mark. Which we did with a few to spare, when we told the marina staff of the feat they were a little surprised as most people who hire their boats don’t do anywhere near that amount of sailing.

All in all it was a fantastic 8 days which I would recommend to any one BUT a word of caution, we were told of many stories where boats had mutinies and crews were left behind on some island, the moral here is “Make sure you can get on with all your crew in confined space” we had also resolved that for this time we would run a ”Dry” boat.
