On to Rockhampton via Brandybottle

For the past few years, I have been chatting with another member of the Windsor Genesis late model Facebook group trying to arrange a meet up, each time in the past events occurred that prevented this happening. This time we discovered that while we were traveling south from Townsville to Rockhampton he would be travelling North to Cairns, could a meet up eventually happen?

Barry knew of a small quaint caravan park near Clairview, so Brandybottle it was to be. We arrived earlier than Barry and Di and set up on a grassed area near the 9-hole golf course, which is part of the caravan park.

Here we did not need the annex as this was just an overnight stay, it was still early so I decided to unhook the van and proceed to Clairview to explore but just as we were about to leave, Barry arrived, so our in-person introductions began with a glass or two of Scotch, Bubbly and Port, followed buy dinner and more Port along with lots of chin wagging

It was not totally dry so we witnessed some rainbows maybe a sign of better things to come.

In the morning it was time to move on but this was Beef Week in Rockhampton and accommodation was booked out, yet we wanted to see Rockhampton, and while Carol was not keen on going to Yeppoon we could have a place there, not in Yeppoon itself, but closer to Emu Park at Kinka Beach the Island View Caravan Park, once there I contacted the friends that joined me on part of my trip to Perth last year, Kyra had now finished her studies and had moved from Adelaide to Rocky where she now works as a nurse.

The were able to meet us for the morning at Emu Park where there was the Festival of the Wind. Kyra Andy Carol and I enjoyed the Kites even though the rain that was hinted at in Brandybottle was now getting a little heaver not just the mist, unfortunately after lunch our friends had to leave as Andy was working that afternoon, we did arrange Dinner for the next day.

After lunch we drove into Yeppoon exploring on the way then on the Byfield where we were going to see what we could see, we saw an interesting turnoff to Weerriba and decided to follow it out to Byfield National Park, BUT we did not get far when the road went under water due to the rains in the catchment, earlier a car tried to cross and was swept downstream, still, people on the other side were stranded, some needing to get back to our side, and against my better judgement some tried and made it one even with a pop-top in tow, apparently the creek was already going down, by now it was getting late so we retreated back to camp.

In the morning, we finally made it into Rockhampton to do a little exploring it felt completely different to what it was like the last time we were here (a lot of things change in 40 years). Finished with or look into Rocky we then proceeded on to Mount Morgan, a much more interesting place to visit, where we could have stayed much longer, but we had a dinner date back in Rocky before returning to our van for the last night in Yeppoon,
