Longreach
After a relative short trip towing (Only 106Km) we arrived early enough to completely setup the van Annex and all,& have lunch before we had to meet Marilyn at the airport. (after the train trip turned into a bus trip Marilyn decided to skip Barcaldine and Fly to Longreach, this did mean a little less time to sightsee but not too much that we could not make up)
The plane arrived on time and it was off to the accommodation Marilyn had chosen, (not the van as it only has room for two and the annex is set up as an office) this was right in the main street and seemed the place to book the things we wanted to see (even a ride in a Cobb & Co Mail Coach if that is what you want). It was part of the Kinnin and Co empire and it seemed most of Longreach was part of that empire (they did know how to treat tourist)
Once settled we all toured the streets finding our way around Longreach and a place to have dinner, we ended up at the Woolshed which is part of the caravan park.
Day two saw us visiting the Stockman’s Hall of Fame followed by the Qantas Founders Museum on day 3 both well worth the price of admission, but there was something missing a joy flight in a helicopter over Longreach, enquires were made at both the Station Store, and the Tourist Information Centre, but no luck they were not taking any bookings till the day after we were to leave. Carol remembered she had a brochure for just that experience and a direct phone number, no harm in trying it, and we were in luck for the following day (Thanks to Chris at Queensland Helicopters) in the afternoon giving enough time to explore the district, have our flight and make it to the booked Sunset Cruise, a full day for our last in Longreach.
