Charleville
Leaving Chinchilla to continue our journey to visit the Dinosaurs of Winton, the plan at the start of the day was to travel to Roma via Miles stay the night and then proceed to Emerald for another one-night stay well that was the plan.
Upon reaching Roma we had learnt that the roads to Charleville and on to Barcaldine were OPEN, another change? Why not, I felt ok to continue through to Charleville, so it was decided to continue with the original travel plan and stay two nights in Charleville.
Just two nights this proved not to be anywhere near long enough, so many secrets to be discovered, so much history. History that is still covered by the USA Secrets act, covering acts that happened during the 2nd World War, and items that even the English were not privy to like the Norden Bomb Sight, as this is still covered under the secrets act. I suggest you visit Charleville to explore the base yourself, it is well worth the visit. (or you can explore my photos and look but not touch these items).
Then there are the models for the Darrel Lea Easter Bilby, Save the Bilby - Charleville Bilby Experience (Charleville Bilby Experience “Save the Bilby Fund”) is yet another not to miss experience, but where to stay? We stayed at the Cobb and Co Caravan Park (caravanparkscharleville.com.au) which we liked, but there is also a free camp just out of town which also has some connection with the secret WW2 base, the Rock Pool is well worth at least a visit.
