Townsville
Carol wanted to go to Townsville to see friends of her family, noting that this is a coastal town we did book the Big 4 before we left Charters, this park was a little out of the way so it was away from the reported crime of the town itself. (We did not see any evidence ourselves but the person we visited did know and was aware of the crime in her area).
We arrived early so that after setting up we had enough time to explore Townsville and get some lunch, Carol remembered that there was a café at the top of Castle Hill and as we wanted to go there any way, it would be a good place to have lunch or so we thought.
Arriving at the top we tried to find the eatery, the memory was good only the time between visits was unkind to the building and it was demolished in the preceding years, so no lunch here but we did get some good photos to revive some memories.
We had some lunch in town then some shopping in preparation for our prearranged visit to the family friend the following day. Then some catch up on some housework.
After some research as to how to get to a lookout out of town Mount Stuart, we left not knowing just what to expect, the drive itself made it worthwhile even though it was a very narrow winding road (glad I did not have the van behind me), and the views from the lookout were breath taking (I just hope the photos do it justice).
We still had some time left in the day after the lookout so the drive continued once back in town this time to Hervey’s Range Heritage Tea Rooms for afternoon tea again the drive was worthwhile BUT no afternoon tea it was Tuesday the only day of the week that they are closed.
Wednesday, time to explore the city and some of the few heritage building that are left in Townsville, unlike Charters Towers many of the older building have been replaced with modern building that have left the city without the character of heritage towns, some say for the better but not me.
We also explored the coast up to Cape Pallarenda, unfortunately the cape is a National Park so no dogs, but a local suggested that on the beach dogs were allowed and by walking below the high tide mark we would not be in the national park and so could see the beauty of the area and take photos, we did this up to where the rocks of the cape crossed the sand this was to be the limit of our walk, so we missed the tip of the cape itself this rounded off our 2nd last day, tomorrow was our arranged visit this visit went well with lots of memories revived
