Days Fifteen to Seventeen

This was to be Copmanhurst

Yes it WAS to be Copmanhurst BUT with the torrential rains in the past few months, what was to be a full test of our van’s off grid capability, finished before it started, not because the venue was not suitable the river beach looked everything I thought it would be, however the track down to the beach left a lot to be desired, I did not feel comfortable taking the 4X4 down it let alone taking the caravan there.

and this is just the top of the track it got rougher

So with no booking I went looking for an alternative and ended up at the Grafton Sunset Caravan Park, a place where the sun should have set a long time ago, I can not recommend this place to anyone

One of the reasons I wanted to stay in this area was a side trip through the Dalmorton road tunnel

to do this we needed to travel the Old Glenn Innes Road a narrow and often dirt winding road, Carol’s comment was that it should be one way but it was a two way road all the way a road we should all do at least once, I was fortunate enough on this trip to spot (and snap a quick photo)

Azure-Kingfisher

of a bird I had never before seen in the wild and Azure Kingfisher which unlike the Greater Kingfisher (which will often let you take multiple photos changing pose between clicks) took off before I could get a better photo, this was a highlight but only one of many.

We followed a river to Buccarunbi this is not a town but a place on the river (which may have been something once now nit not now) this would make a good freecamp though you would need to backtrack to leave as the road to come is not suitable for a caravan though there are other places to camp before the tunnel.

and there were many other spots before Dalmorton

This is all that is left of Historic Dalmorton

We also came across what I feel is an unusual WW1 memorial why unusual you ask, well there is not a house within sight of the memorial
