Welcome to my HuaDu Adventure
My first trip to China
This was my base for my time in China. I stayed at the “Phoenix Club Hotel”, travelling by taxi to the factory during the week and walking around the area during the weekend’.
As I do not speak or read Chinese I was limited in where I could go to the area I could walk or where transport was arranged for me, this was OK for a while but I was soon limited to seeing the same things over and over, until by chance I was introduced to a young collage student named “Jenny” that was a turning point, ( at this time I also met Jennifer and her High School friends, that was good during the weekday evenings) from that time I started to enjoy my stay much more, I now had a way of getting transport, ordering the meals I wanted, not just those that I could see, and it made a real difference.
Both Jenny and Jennifer were both able to explain the local ways and customs. Jenny was also able to show me just what I had been walking past up until that time allowing me to appreciate the local parks and markets in a way I had not up until that time, and better in the local language which achieved a much better result than I could only speaking English and using signs to communicate with the shopkeepers who only spoke Chinese.
Regardless of a lack of a common language I still found it possible to communicate with a number of people before I met Jenny through the use of a number of methods from Sign Language, body Language, drawing and persistence, (today I have a translator on my phone but not back then)
I am still in contact with some of the people I met during my stay as you will find out in my later China adventures
On the following pages I will detail some high-lights of my adventure
