Factory Life.

Try doing this in Australia and the Unions would object.

Because most factory workers are from poor peasant families and move hundreds of Kms for work, factories provide accommodation and meals for their workers, but for this and about $US 40 per week they are expected to work (in some cases 29 days per month) at this factory from 8:00 am to 12 noon with an hour and a half off for lunch (A long lunch you say, well it is needed to do their house work, Washing etc) returning at 1:30 to work through to 5:30 pm (ok that is an 8 hour day you say) then it is half an hour for dinner and returning to work from 6:00 pm to 9:00 pm even later if there is a container to load when knock-off is when the job is finished all with NO over-time (Penalty rates what are they very few people get any paid for overtime yet overtime is expected to be preformed)

This is SIX days per week so much for a 35 hour week

Accommodation to say the least is very modest and as for the other working conditions “Work Cover”, “Workers Compensation”  and other safety initiatives are complete myths in China, this factory has been lucky no major accidents have happened but it is only a matter of time.

Still I have made many friends and there is little unrest, people even though they have little money are in-fact rich, rich in the things that matter to them, friendship, and the ability to be happy and entertain themselves, they do not need expensive Toys ”to entertain them”.
