Our Tips For Travelling In China

  1. Unless you speak and / or read  Chinese or know some local people book through a Travel Agent
  2. Do your homework, know where you want to go
  3. Install a translator onto your phone
  4. Note that a Tourist Visa into China is a single entry and remember leaving Mainland China to enter Hong Kong or Macau even though they are part of China you will need another Visa to re-enter China
  5. A Business Visa is multi entry and last longer that a 30 day Tourist Visa these can be obtained with out booked flights and hotels BUT you will need to organise an invitation from a registered Chinese Business (Business Visas last for 6 or 12 months usually with either a 60 or 90 day limit on any one visit
  6. Athough you have been told that your Chinese Guide speaks English it will be limited and most likely be “Chinglish”
  7. Unless you are at a fixed price shop Haggle like mad the first price you are given is inflated.
  8. In many parts of China, Visa and Mastercard are not accepted in Shops (Some ATM will but you need to look)
  9. There are many scams in places where English speaking people are arriving (EG Beijing, Shanghai) Example: you may be asked to help then speak English and taken to a cafe where you will end up paying an inflated price for all the tea or coffee consumed by the people at that table.
  10. As soon as you arrive at your hotel obtain an address card in Chinese for the Hotel!
  11. If you are able to create your own cards for the places you want to go print them one side English the other in Chinese (use online translators)
  12. Talk to me as I may have some extra help for you depending on where you are going.
  13. REMEMBER THE GREAT FIREWALL OF CHINA,----- GOOGLE, AND ITS ASSOCIATED COMPANY SITES ARE BLOCKED, AS WELL AS MOST SOCIAL MEDIA. before you leave Australia if you want to use these sites or apps you must arrange a VPN to get through the Chinese firewall.
