Day Three – Cobar
The real adventure begins this is the first part of the trip that Carol had never seen as apart from the first hour or so to Warren, from there on to Nevertire and Cobar is all new to her and for me it has been over 40 years since I was there.
A quick stop at Collie for coffee and more family then on to Nevertire, Nyngan and finally Cobar, for another overnight stop (We will stay here a bit longer on our return)
Well this is what it was supposed to be but as I mentioned we were advised to go through Dubbo and not Warren so the map below is the actual trip not quite through Dubbo, but still a back track of sorts,
We stopped at Nyngan for a break and found the “Big Bogan”
as well as the mini ones before heading on to Cobar, By now we found out that the water pump in the caravan had stopped working and already had water in a container, the upshot of this though meant we need to be attached to a mains water system to have water to our taps not a real problem if we were in a caravan park but it ruled out free camping, so far not a problem BUT this was the week Cobar had the “Running On Empty Festival”
and we had not booked a site at the van park, with the next town that had a van park was Wilcannia some distance to go.
Anyway we still decided to explore Cobar taking the obligatory photo at the entrance of town
As we were to come back this way and we still had a trip ahead of us we left early but not till after getting a bite to eat, which we ended up eating in the van as the flies were just so bad they were trying to carry us away.
We did not want to go all the way to Wilcannia so we settled on Emmdale Roadhouse if they had room which they did
This is what sunset looked like note the “river” but the reality showed up in the day light
just a puddle in the driveway left over from the last rainstorm. More about Emmdale later on our way back
