Cadiz

To me Cadiz did not live up to my expectations, while parts of the old town were excellent, others were sadly neglected.

In other cities tourists were fantastically catered for with frequent signs directing visitors to places if interest, but not here in Cadiz. We knew where the Roman Theatre was from the outside yet it was quite an effort to find the entrance to the museum and thus the entrance to the theatre. We are still looking for some other places we wanted to visit and it was only by accident we found others.

When Carol and I visited the old wall (after really looking hard for the entrance which was all but hidden) I was surprised to find the condition displays they were neglected and showed signs of water damage, all the grass and plants in the wall were brown from lack of care. The thing that to me said it all was an emergency exit sign for an exit to the right, the worker did not have the correct sign so they used one for an exit to the left so as to have it show the correct direction it was put up upside down. To me this showed a total lack of care.

So much potential gone to waste, my hope is that this will change in the near future.

Still there were some highlights like:

The local Architecture

The Old City Wall

The Grand Theatre

Old Tobacco Factory

 Religious Buildings

The Roman Theatre

The Fort

The Market Place

The Waterside
