Barcelona

Upon Arrival at Barcelona airport we were again amazed at the benefits of travelling with a wheelchair, while all the other passengers had to walk the long trek from the boarding gate to Immigration we were taken off the plane on the opposite side into a vehicle lowered and driven around the airport directly to immigration, where we were escorted through ahead for everyone else to the luggage carousel where our bags were waiting next Snow’s wheelchair and out through Customs to our waiting Taxi to take us to the hotel.

This trip was my first taste of things to come, a maze of narrow streets and roads closed to unauthorised vehicles. This already changes some of my plans for picking up our hired car which originally had me picking up the car and bringing it back to the hotel to load up now it became clear I needed to take everything and everybody to the hire car, but that is a problem for later. At the hotel we were told that the trip by car from Avis to the hotel is “a little complicated”.

Walking in the old town is easy but driving not so easy.

When we first arrived at our hotel my heart sank a little, the building was old and seemed to lack modern amenities, but then I reminded myself of our stay in Venice 10 years earlier and like that the staff here made up for what the building lacked and so did the location (just off the La Rambla)  near most of the things Carol knew.

Carol had much delight in showing us the many places she remembered from her 2012 trip.
