Having arrived at our meeting place and met with Yazmin Jenny said good bye and returned to Shenzhen to work for the day getting orders out before the national holiday.
Shortly after Yazmin arrived with her little one we were joined by Kyra and we then proceeded to Yazmin’s parents place to collect a car to drive to Yazmin’s home.
I settled in very quickly and there was an instant connection with the little one much to everyone’s surprise, I made an even bigger hit after I opened my bag and produced a soft toy Kangaroo , that made a big hit and is now know as Lu Lu, mind you it is almost as big as the little one.
When Lee (Yazmin’s Husband) arrived home and Sophia arrived the plans for my stay was discussed and I was informed that the first two days we were to see the local area then on the last two full days we would travel to the rural village as a group Yazmin’s parents would also join us for those days.
Day one with the little one safe at her grandparents place, Andy, Kyra’s boyfriend, joined us and travelled to “Long Bei Ling” village to see Ye’s Temple and watchtowers. The village had some traditional architecture for the area, but it also shows the influence of the “Foreign Devils” or “Gweilo” who controlled the area with Opium. I assume that the watchtowers were used during the Opium Wars against the British.
Later we went to Da Ping Village where Da Ping Zhang mountain is located, the plan was park the car and for all of us to climb the mountain, but it seems everybody around also had the same plan the crowds had set in and Lee was unable to find a suitable place to park, his solution was for him to drop everyone else off and wait safely away where he could stop for when we wanted to leave. Plan “b” was good too so Kyra, Andy, Yazmin, Sophia and myself headed up the mountain, Sophia and I took the lead leaving the others to straggle behind, Sophia and I made it to the top the others stopped part way up and turned around (maybe they knew something Sophia and I did not, as shortly after we reached the top the heavens opened up and there was little to no cover, so by the time we reached the bottom and Lee we were quite wet so we returned home to dry off
That night we gathered around the family table and had a delicious hot pot and played a few games. Later when we were all in bed I had trouble sleeping, the little one did not have an English name and I was wondering if they would give me the honour of giving her one, thinking for some time what that would be, I finally fell asleep and when I woke I knew the answer. When Yazmin and Lee were up I asked them if I may have the honour of giving the little one an English name when Yazmin said that they were going to ask me to suggest one.
I smiled and said I had just the name, “Johanna” then I gave then the meaning “Precious Gift From God” Yazmin too smiled and said that was good, then I told them why I had that name in mind, Johanna was my mothers middle name and the name she preferred, Yazmin said at that time it was settled Johanna it would be.
After breakfast Lee, Johanna, the three girls and I left for the “Guanian Print Village”, the village has traditional buildings in a true village setting, they are the base of an artist village and print making industry, the craft carried on there is varied, being both traditional art as well as modern art, it was also a place where aspiring artists can learn more about their craft and exchange ideas
