Millers Point Recreation Reserve
As a result of not being able to get into Bremmer bay I looked for alternatives, close enough to Bremmer Bay to allow some exploration but far enough away to not need booking, two places came to mind, Ravensthorpe a small town on the highway but a little far from anything interesting or Millers Point Recreation Reserve which the books describe as being for “Small Vehicles” (the books had this wrong as there was even a motorhome in there) and accessed by a “Dry Weather Road” 5km long, this did not have any form of communications power or water but is on an inlet so did have some interesting views with a bonus of not being too far from Bremmer Bay to allow me to explore, another benefit, it was about the same distance from Cape Riche, so MIllers Point it was to be, IF I could get in.
The road in was a little rough with corrugations so it was a little slow. When I arrived, I was reminded of the caravan park in Hopetoun lots and lots of trees a red flag was raised!
The host took me to a protected spot from the prevailing winds yet still had a view down the inlet. The nearest van to me was quite some distance, this place had it all and for only $10 per night per person, the catch the only facilities were toilets no showers, no water or power, all good I had full tanks and plenty of power, I could even use the generator if needed as no one would hear it anyway.
I enjoyed exploring both Bremmer Bay (where I took advantage of being able to communicate to arrange a new awning), Cape Riche and all places in between.
Here I also was able to speak with a lovely elderly lady from Mount Barker who suggested I go there as it was close enough to Albany and Denmark to see them on day trips yet she assured me the caravan park would be easy to get into, she was correct an all points.
Note This place would be good for a group gathering as there are places where up to 5 friends in their own caravan could gather yet be secluded as a group.
