Menindee

With our extended stay in Broken Hills our planned overnight stay at Menindee became a day trip it is only an hour drive each way from the Hill so we left after breakfast down the Menindee Road arriving about 9:45 at the Rail bridge just outside of Menindee, From there we proceeded into town of Menindee which claims to be “The First Town On The Darling” and the “Last Outpost of European civilisation” for the ill-fated Burke and Wills expedition before the set off.

There was lots of evidence that the Darling and the Lakes were full to overflowing (actually in flood) with many roads either closed or only open with caution something that in recent years was unknown with so little water that there were huge fish kills.

From town we headed to the main weir and watched people fishing catching some good size fish (Pity many of them were Carp which were just left on the bank to rot not even the birds were interested in the carp).
Leaving the main weir we proceeded to lake Pamamaroo near the inlet regulator then along the bank spotting may interesting places to Camp which we noted for future use as the Menindee area need more than just a day visit.

From Lake Pamamaroo we travelled into Kinchega National Park and the woolshed at the old station for which the park is named, after which we proceed to the Silver City Highway on a dirt road which allowed us to spot mush of the local flora and fauna, arriving back in the Hill before dusk to avoid having the wild life we spotted becoming a road kill statistic at our hands (I neither wanted to harm them or more importantly damage my car)
