Queenstown

We did not book into Strahan and could only get into Queenstown a strange Caravan Park where the office kept rather strange hours and there was no one there to tell us where our site was, this after a rather long day with a stop at Derwent Bridge to admire the “Wall in the Wilderness” a well worthwhile stop.

Our stay in Queenstown saw us cover many Km exploring the very up and down region, visiting places like Zeehan some west coast harbours that were in places that were really not suitable for a harbour more about these on the Queenstown page

More Convict history on the Gordon River Cruise and the Ship that Never Was but, unfortunately, we missed the Wilderness Railway as it was booked out. By now we were wondering when summer was in Tasmania remember it snowed on Mount Wellington on Christmas Day that was only 12km from our van at the time, and it was not much warmer here in Queenstown now.

We also took other trips and wondered why people chose the west coast above Strahan to attempt to create harbours like Trial Bay and Granville Harbour. Rosebery and Zeehan
