We were invited to attend a wedding in Wellington, so we decided that as we had not had a holiday for some time we would not just attend the wedding but also spend some time to see both the South Island and the North Island.

Knowing that my mum had always wanted to see the “Boiling Mud” we asked her if she would like to join us on this adventure it did not take her long to agree but mobility could be a problem. (Mum could not walk very far or fast as her heart was not that good)

Passports were organised for the three of us and planning commenced the only limitations for this trip were flying to and from New Zealand and arriving in Wellington for the wedding.

Hotels were booked for Christchurch, Wellington (the same hotel as the wedding reception) and our departure point Auckland then out flights to and from.

We booked a hire car which we could take on the ferry between the South and North Islands and we were ready to go!

 

Two tips we do have is

• To only do one island at a time if your time is limited and
• If you have the time and do both Islands hire a car you can take on the ferry
